Prof. Stanley Ominde Khainga is one of Africa’s most distinguished plastic and reconstructive surgeons, with more than 35 years of clinical, academic, and surgical excellence. Widely regarded as the Father of Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery in Kenya, he has played a pioneering role in advancing plastic, reconstructive, and microsurgical techniques throughout the region.

He earned his MBChB and Master of Medicine in Surgery from the University of Nairobi, followed by a Fellowship in Plastic Surgery (FCS Plastics, South Africa). His advanced international training includes a Certificate in Microvascular Surgery (Medunsa, South Africa), a WHO Fellowship in Plastic Surgery (Medunsa), a Certificate in Breast Surgery (Jefferson University, USA), and a Certificate in Hand Surgery (Medunsa, South Africa).

A pioneer of microsurgery in Kenya, Prof. Khainga introduced Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) into the country, significantly transforming the management of complex wounds and reconstructive procedures. His contributions have had a lasting impact on surgical innovation, patient care, and medical education across East Africa.

Prof. Khainga serves as a Professor at the University of Nairobi, where he has mentored and supervised more than 30 Master of Medicine (MMed) students, shaping the next generation of surgeons. His dedication to research is reflected in over 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications, contributing substantially to the advancement of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Since 2023, he has served as the Chairman of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), providing national leadership in medical regulation, education, and healthcare standards. Throughout his distinguished career, Prof. Khainga has remained committed to excellence in clinical practice, surgical innovation, research, and mentorship, earning widespread recognition as one of Kenya’s most respected leaders in reconstructive and plastic surgery.
